: chris joining us from philadelphia, democrats' line with representative rick larsen from washington state. caller: thank you, c-span, for what you provide the american people. i find this whole situation ironic. the fiscal cliff scares me personally -- and i think president obama certainly has shown his willingness to compromise whereas the republicans and tea party do not seem to want to do so. this ideology they are sticking to will ruin our economy and i find it hypocritical because their chief criticism of the president during the presidential campaign was his mismanagement of our economy and they are willing to mismanage our economy down the drain on some principal. it does not seem they care about the american people. they care about the part of the american people, the rich, that is what seems like to me and i am sick of it. i used to be republican and i switched party about, i guess eight or 10 years ago. which has something to do with philadelphia politics as well because you cannot have much say in philadelphia politics unless you are democrat but that is beside the point.

are in new york and i'm in atlanta, and we get to washington now, because the senior congressional correspondent dana bash is closely following the negotiations from capitol hill, and dana, you have been there and talking to people, and where are we on this? >> well, the senate majority leader harry reid was on the floor moments ago saying that the senate will reconvene at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. the senate will reconvene tomorrow at 11:00 tomorrow, and that means no senate votes tonight which is not good news for everybody looking at the calendar and looking at the watch at this point and not the calendar to see that it is midnight tomorrow night that everybody's taxes in this country will go up. simply put, both sides are not at a place where they believe that they can come up with anything to put on the senate floor for a vote tonight. they will give it until the actual deadline, december 31st tomorrow, to reconvene. however, senator reid did say, don, that talks will continue tonight, so that is a good sign at least that the talks are continuing, but the fact that they are not vot

on the road, but also here in washington is really relentless. this is not someone who just flies in and meets with a foreign minister, with a leader or president and has a dinner. this is someone who's constantly going on the road, meeting with civil society groups, meeting with opposition groups. someone who really doesn't slow down, and i think, don, she got this flu, this stomach virus during her last trip, and then it had a cumulative effect from there. she was ill, she was dehydrated, she fainted. she had a concussion, and now we see that she has this blood clot. we were researching a little bit, we did see that in 1998 during the midterm election for her husband, president clinton, she also was treated for a blood clot and wa on blood thenners and was also at the time keeping this hectic pace. so it does seem she has a history with these type of clots, but it is i think over the last few months, she's really been tired. she even said in a recent interview with barbara walters. she said, barbara, i'm really tired. i think that just the last few months have really taken a toll on her, don
